"Queenie Sings" is much more than a great night out. It's the culmination of a musical journey with wild ambition and a passion for authenticity. Teaming up with former MTV Senior Producer Alan Howard, Queenie set about putting on an atmospheric, live music experience similar to the jazz and blues nights she grew up with in New York. Stripped back, simple and powerful, you can follow the journey from the original idea to the very first gigs by following our YouTube channel where you'll see the whole thing evolve, capturing the search for the right musicians, rehearsals and the occasional "musical difference"... Come and be part of it, then see us live.
Queenie has been singing since forever and started performing in the bars and clubs of Newport Rhode Island. Her musical career was flourishing and in 1985 she had a no.1 dance record in the States. With a love of big big ballads and the heroes of yesteryear Queenie was set for a massive music career and then love struck. Queenie met and married a band member from The Pogues and her career took a backseat. Then a family came along and life took over. "Queenie sings" is a resurrection of what that career would have been and you're invited to follow the whole process by following our YouTube channel and then coming to see the show live.
Our first incarnation saw us up teaming up with the legend that is Lincoln Noel. A fantastic pianist, massive personality and allround top bloke Lincoln brought class and virtuoso playing to this fledgling project, but alas being based in Northampton meant it just wasn't going to be .. however, even before we had any idea what we were doing we started filming...
So this is the first time Lincoln sat down at a piano with Queenie.
We had no idea what to expect but I think it worked out pretty well. This isn't even a rehearsal, this is busking...
When you’re given the chance to perform at the fantastic and prestigious Victorious festival at very short notice, the only thing to do is to try out the songs at 9 o’clock when you’re due onstage at 11…
Queenie belts out a soulful acapella version of Amazing Grace in the Studio.
